Zimbabwe Cricket: Corona pandemic has affected almost all businesses, events including sports world across the world. Zimbabwe Cricket association has temporarily suspended all the cricket events which is scheduled for this year in the country. It is because of new Government’s new restrictions over Coronavirus due to increase in COVID-19 cases.
According to ESPNcricinfo report, all sports events in Zimbabwe was temporarily suspended due to rise in COVID-19 cases. Zimbabwe Cricket has given a statement that it is a challenging situation for them and also they are trying to reschedule all the events and fixtures which got affected. The elite men’s domestic T20 competition which was scheduled to begin this Monday is also cancelled.
Zimbabwe has not played any international match since they return from Pakistan during November 2020. In that series the country has played the six-match limited series against Pakistan. The county team was planned to host Afghanistan during August last year but it was cancelled. Also India also planned to visit Zimbabwe during August for three ODIs which was also called off.
Curerntly Indian cricket team is playing a tour match against Australia. In that series, Australia has won ODI series, India has won T20 series. In two test matches, each team has won one match. Still two more test matches are there to play. The third test match will begin on January 7. Captain Virat Kohli is not in the squad as he was in India with his wife Anushka Sharma expecting his first baby this January. The team will play under the captaincy of Rahane.
