The iPhone SE 4, Apple’s next low-cost iPhone model, is expected to have some significant new features, including an Action Button that is rumored to be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This is according to a leaker known as “Unknownz21”, who shared some details about the device on Twitter.
What is the Action Button?
The Action Button is a new feature that Apple is reportedly planning to introduce with the iPhone 15 Pro models, which are expected to launch in September 2023. The Action Button would replace the mute switch on the side of the device, and would be configurable to perform multiple functions, such as acting as a camera shutter button, launching Siri, or toggling Do Not Disturb mode.
The Action Button would be a clear differentiator between the iPhone 15 Pro models and the regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which are not expected to offer the feature. However, according to Unknownz21, the Action Button would also make its way to the iPhone SE 4, which is not expected to launch until 2025.
Why would the iPhone SE 4 get the Action Button?
The iPhone SE 4 is believed to be based on the design of the iPhone 14, which is expected to launch in September 2022. The iPhone SE series has traditionally reused design elements from earlier main iPhone models, such as the iPhone SE (2016) being based on the iPhone 5s, and the iPhone SE (2020) being based on the iPhone 8.
However, Unknownz21 claims that the iPhone SE 4 would also adopt some features from the iPhone 15 Pro models, such as the Action Button. This could be a way for Apple to make the iPhone SE 4 more appealing and competitive in the low-cost smartphone market, as well as to showcase its innovation and versatility.
What else do we know about the iPhone SE 4?
Besides the Action Button, Unknownz21 also mentions some other features that the iPhone SE 4 would have, such as:
- A USB-C port, moving away from Lightning for the first time
- Face ID, replacing Touch ID
- A single rear camera setup
The iPhone SE 4 is also rumored to have an OLED display panel, which would be a significant upgrade over the current model’s LCD. Moreover, the device is expected to be among the first to contain Apple’s custom 5G modem, which would improve its connectivity and performance.
The next-generation iPhone SE is not expected to launch until 2025, so there is still a lot of time for things to change. However, based on these leaks, it seems that Apple is preparing a major refresh for its entry-level iPhone model.
