Nothing Phone 2a: A budget-friendly smartphone with a transparent design

Nothing, the tech company founded by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, is reportedly working on a new smartphone that will be more affordable than its previous offerings. The device, dubbed as Nothing Phone 2a, is expected to launch in India soon, as it has been spotted on the BIS certification website. The Nothing Phone 2a will likely feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, a dual rear camera setup, and a transparent back panel with a Glyph interface.

The Nothing Phone 2a is rumored to be a cheaper version of the Nothing Phone 2, which was launched in July 2023 with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a 120Hz LTPO OLED screen. The Phone 2a, on the other hand, might come with a mid-range processor from Qualcomm or MediaTek, and a standard AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is also said to have a 16MP selfie camera, a 50MP main camera, and a 4,920mAh battery.

The most distinctive feature of the Nothing Phone 2a, however, is its design. The phone is expected to retain the transparent back panel and the Glyph interface from the Nothing Phone 1 and 2. The Glyph interface is a set of LED lights that can display different patterns and colors depending on the phone’s status and notifications. The transparent back panel allows users to see the internal components of the phone, such as the battery, the motherboard, and the camera module.

When will the Nothing Phone 2a launch?

Nothing has not officially confirmed the existence or the launch date of the Phone 2a, but it has hinted that something is coming this week. The company updated its bio on X (formerly Twitter) to say “something is coming this week”. This could mean that the company might announce the launch date or reveal some details about the Phone 2a soon.

According to some tipsters, the Phone 2a might launch in India in the first half of 2024, possibly around February. The phone has already been certified by the BIS, which is a prerequisite for launching any electronic device in India. The phone has also been spotted on the IMEI database with the model number AIN142, which is similar to the model number A142 seen on the BIS listing.

How much will the Nothing Phone 2a cost?

The price of the Nothing Phone 2a is still unknown, but it is expected to be more affordable than the Nothing Phone 2, which was launched at $599. The Phone 2a might compete with other mid-range smartphones in the market, such as the OnePlus Nord 2, the Samsung Galaxy A52s, and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite. The phone might also offer some unique features, such as the transparent design, the Glyph interface, and the Nothing OS 2.5, which is based on Android 12.

The Nothing Phone 2a could be a good option for those who are looking for a stylish and innovative smartphone that does not break the bank. The phone might also attract some fans of the Nothing brand, which is known for its unconventional products, such as the Nothing Ear (1) wireless earbuds and the Nothing Lab Coat, a transparent garment inspired by IBM.
