Pokémon GO Fest 2023: Global is a virtual event that allows players from all over the world to participate in various activities and challenges. One of the main attractions of the event is the Special Research that features two legendary Pokémon: Diancie and Mega Rayquaza.
What is Special Research?
Special Research is a type of research that gives players a series of tasks and rewards based on a specific theme. Unlike Timed Research, Special Research does not have a deadline and can be completed at any time once unlocked. However, some Special Research may require a ticket to access, such as the ones for Pokémon GO Fest 2023: Global.
How to get Diancie and Mega Rayquaza?
Diancie and Mega Rayquaza are two of the most anticipated Pokémon to join Pokémon GO. They are both part of the Special Research for Pokémon GO Fest 2023: Global, but they have different requirements and rewards.
Diancie is a fairy- and rock-type Pokémon that can also Mega Evolve into Mega Diancie. It is the star of the Special Research titled “GO Fest 2023: Fascinating Facets”. To unlock this research, players need to buy a Pokémon GO Fest 2023 pass for $14.99. If they did not buy it, they will have to wait for another opportunity to catch Diancie in the future.
The “GO Fest 2023: Fascinating Facets” Special Research has six steps, each with three tasks and rewards. The tasks involve spinning PokéStops, catching Pokémon, using items, hatching eggs, earning Stardust, and evolving Pokémon. The rewards include items, encounters with rare Pokémon such as Joltik, Oranguru, Hisuian Growlithe, and Carbink, and Diancie itself at step four. The final step also grants players a Diancie T-shirt, 25 Diancie stickers, and a Treasure Hunt Pose.
Players who already have Diancie from attending an in-person GO Fest event will receive 25 Diancie Candy instead of another encounter. They will also get 25 Diancie Candy and 100 Diancie Mega Energy instead of the T-shirt and pose.
Mega Rayquaza is a dragon- and flying-type Pokémon that is one of the most powerful Mega Evolutions in the game. It is the star of the Special Research titled “GO Fest 2023: Sky High”. To unlock this research, players need to complete the “GO Fest 2023: Fascinating Facets” Special Research first. They also need to buy a Pokémon GO Fest 2023 pass for $14.99.
The “GO Fest 2023: Sky High” Special Research has five steps, each with three tasks and rewards. The tasks involve exploring distance, completing Field Research tasks, visiting PokéStops or gyms, catching Pokémon, using items, battling in raids, and earning XP. The rewards include items, encounters with rare Pokémon such as Dratini, Bagon, Gible, Deino, and Noibat, and Rayquaza itself at step five. The final step also grants players a Meteorite item that can be used to evolve Rayquaza into Mega Rayquaza.
Players who already have Rayquaza from previous events will receive 25 Rayquaza Candy instead of another encounter.
Why are Diancie and Mega Rayquaza special?
Diancie and Mega Rayquaza are special because they are both very rare and powerful Pokémon that have not been available in Pokémon GO before. They are also part of the lore of the Pokémon universe, as they are related to ancient legends and myths.
Diancie is said to be born from a Carbink that undergoes a mutation. It has the power to create diamonds from thin air and control them with its will. It is also the guardian of the Diamond Domain, a hidden realm where many Carbink live peacefully.
Mega Rayquaza is said to be the leader of the weather trio, along with Groudon and Kyogre. It has the power to fly beyond the atmosphere and calm the raging storms caused by its rivals. It is also the only Pokémon that can Mega Evolve without using a Mega Stone or a Key Stone, thanks to its bond with humans.
