Why is ‘Until Dawn’ getting a movie adaptation?

‘Until Dawn’ is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed horror games of the last decade. The game received praise for its cinematic presentation, immersive gameplay, and branching narrative. The game also won several awards and nominations, such as the BAFTA Games Award for Original Property, the Golden Joystick Award for Best Original Game, and the DICE Award for Outstanding Achievement in Story. The game has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide and has spawned a prequel game, ‘The Inpatient’, and a spin-off game, ‘Until Dawn: Rush of Blood’.

Sony Pictures has been developing movie adaptations of its PlayStation games for a while, under its PlayStation Productions division. The studio has already announced projects based on ‘The Last of Us’, ‘Uncharted’, ‘Gran Turismo’, and ‘Twisted Metal’. ‘Until Dawn’ is the latest addition to the list, and it will be made in collaboration with Screen Gems, a Sony Pictures label that specializes in horror and thriller films.

What can we expect from the ‘Until Dawn’ movie?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the ‘Until Dawn’ movie will be an R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast. The movie will also pay homage to the game’s interactive nature, by incorporating elements of choice and consequence. The movie’s logline is being kept under wraps, but it is likely that it will follow the same premise and setting as the game, with some changes and twists.

The movie will also reunite Sandberg and Dauberman, who have previously worked together on ‘Annabelle: Creation’, a prequel to the ‘Annabelle’ series and a part of the ‘Conjuring’ universe. Sandberg and Dauberman are both fans of the horror genre and have proven their skills in creating scares and suspense. Sandberg is also known for his ability to balance horror and humor, as seen in his ‘Shazam!’ film, which could suit the tone of ‘Until Dawn’.

The movie’s release date and cast have not been announced yet, but fans of the game and the horror genre can look forward to a thrilling and terrifying adaptation of ‘Until Dawn’.
