Withings launches new hybrid smartwatches with advanced health features

Withings, a French company known for its health-focused devices, has announced two new hybrid smartwatches at IFA 2023: the ScanWatch 2 and the ScanWatch Light. Both watches combine analog design with digital features, such as OLED screens, heart rate sensors, and SpO2 monitors. The ScanWatch 2 also adds body temperature tracking, ECG, and cycle tracking to its list of capabilities.

ScanWatch 2: a premium watch with temperature tracking

The ScanWatch 2 is the successor to the original ScanWatch, which was launched in 2020. It has a stainless steel case, sapphire glass cover, and a large analog watch face with a small circular OLED display on the top half. The display can show information such as notifications, health metrics, and workout modes. The watch also has a secondary dial that indicates the percentage of daily activity goal achieved.

One of the main features of the ScanWatch 2 is its ability to measure body temperature throughout the day and night. This is possible thanks to a new TempTech24/7 module that measures ambient and skin temperature, along with heart rate and accelerometer data. The watch can detect temperature changes that may indicate a fever, infection, or other health condition. Users can view their temperature trends and alerts on the Withings Health Mate app.

The ScanWatch 2 also offers other health features, such as irregular heart rhythm detection, atrial fibrillation (AFib) screening, and electrocardiogram (ECG) recording. These features are medically certified by the FDA and CE, meaning they can be used in clinical settings. The watch can also monitor blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiratory rate, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep quality, and fitness level. Additionally, Withings has added cycle tracking for women to track and log their menstrual cycle and its various stages.

The ScanWatch 2 has a battery life of up to 30 days, depending on the usage of the features. It is water-resistant up to 50 meters and supports over 30 sports modes. It is compatible with both Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth.

The ScanWatch 2 is available in two sizes: 38mm and 42mm. It comes in various color options: silver black, silver white, rose gold sand, and rose gold blue. The price starts at $349.95 / £319.95 / €349.95.

ScanWatch Light: a budget-friendly option with essential features

The ScanWatch Light is a new addition to the Withings lineup. It is a more affordable and simplified version of the ScanWatch 2, without compromising on the essential features. It has a polycarbonate case, mineral glass cover, and a smaller analog watch face with a rectangular OLED display on the bottom half. The display can show information such as notifications, health metrics, and workout modes.

The ScanWatch Light offers some of the same health features as the ScanWatch 2, such as SpO2 monitoring, sleep tracking, fitness level assessment, and over 30 sports modes. However, it does not have temperature tracking, ECG, AFib detection, or cycle tracking. It also has a shorter battery life of up to 25 days.

The ScanWatch Light is water-resistant up to 50 meters and compatible with both Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth.

The ScanWatch Light is available in one size: 37mm. It comes in two color options: black or white. The price is $249.95 / £229.95 / €249.95.

Availability and pre-order

Both the ScanWatch 2 and the ScanWatch Light are available for pre-order now from Withings.com. They are expected to ship in October 2023.

Withings is also offering a special bundle deal for those who pre-order both watches: they can get a free Body+ smart scale (worth $99.95 / £89.95 / €99.95) or a free BPM Connect blood pressure monitor (worth $99.95 / £89.95 / €99.95).

Withings claims that its hybrid smartwatches are designed for those who want a watch that offers health metrics without the constant nagging for attention that is common with most smartwatches. They are also meant to appeal to those who prefer a classic and elegant look over a flashy and futuristic one.
