YUMIYU Jewelry Sells the Gold Look Without the Grams

YUMIYU Jewelry sells gold-filled evil-eye pieces from Miami as solid-gold jewellery volumes fall, offering a $39 gold look without the gram weight.

YUMIYU Jewelry sells gold-filled pieces from Miami for as little as $39, into a market where solid-gold jewelry volumes have slumped. The 2023 launch copy talked about spirituality and a mother’s name. The business that is still on the screen is a shower-proof gold look at a price that no longer tracks the bullion quote.

Founder Nina Wong still frames the line as luxurious handcraft. The metal in the listings is gold filled over brass, and the homepage was running an archive sale at $39 while gold in the second quarter of 2026 averaged $4,506.30 an ounce on the LBMA fix the World Gold Council publishes.

A Miami Shop That Outlasted Its Press Release

On September 11, 2023, a Miami release introduced YUMIYU as gold-filled, personalized, long-lasting fine jewelry. The live storefront is yumiyujewelry.co, not the.com in that copy, and orders are handcrafted to order and shipped from Miami, Florida.

The shop tells buyers the work is designed and made in the U.S., water and tarnish resistant, and covered by 30-day free U.S. returns. Standard domestic shipping is free on orders over $75, with a 1 to 3 business day handoff and 3 to 5 business days in transit through USPS. International parcels go out on DHL, with duties on the buyer.

THE SHOP IN BRIEF

  • The score it shows: The storefront displays 4.7 out of 5 from 10,667 reviews and claims 10,000+ customers.
  • The independent file: Trustpilot, claimed in January 2024, showed 4.6 from 125 reviews.
  • The desk: Customer service hours are 10am to 10pm EST, seven days, with text-only support at +1 786-405-6803.
  • The referral cut: Ambassadors are offered up to 10% commission on successful referrals.

Those review counts are not the same pile. The widget on the shop is a storefront score. Trustpilot is a smaller public file, and both sit on a brand that still answers custom-charm mail as if the founder is at the other end.

We believe that every individual is a storyteller, and our jewelry is the canvas upon which those stories come to life.

Nina Wong, Founder and CEO, September 11, 2023 launch statement

Three years on, the canvas is a catalog of evil eyes, hamsas, Stars of David, pearls, and a charm bar, sold as everyday metal that can go in the water.

Shoppers Spent More and Took Home Less Gold

The World Gold Council’s 2025 jewellery chapter is the cold arithmetic behind a $39 gold look. Global jewellery consumption fell to a five-year low, while the dollars spent on what remained hit a record because the price of the metal ran so far ahead of the tonnes.

The council’s full-year table logged jewellery consumption of 1,542.3 tonnes in 2025, down 18% from 1,866.9 tonnes in 2024. The value of that demand rose 18% to $172 billion. In the United States, volume slipped 11% to 117.3 tonnes from 131.9, while spending rose 28% to $13 billion. Fieldwork in that U.S. note pointed to less fine weight in each purchase, not a rush into lower-karat alloys.

GOLD JEWELRY TONNES AGAINST LAST YEAR

Market 2025 tonnes 2025 y/y Q2 2026 tonnes Q2 y/y
World 1,542.3 -18% 278.2 -17%
United States 117.3 -11% 22.2 -25%

The 2025 LBMA annual average was $3,431.50, up 44% from $2,386.20 in 2024. By the second quarter of 2026 the quarterly average was $4,506.30, and world jewellery demand in that quarter was 278.2 tonnes against 335.3 a year earlier. U.S. demand in the same quarter was 22.2 tonnes, down 25% from 29.7. First-half 2026 jewellery spending still rose 22% to $86 billion from $71 billion, which is the same split in another coat of paint: more money, less metal.

The council said buyers adapted with lighter-weight jewellery and lower-carat designs, plus old-for-new exchanges and a pull toward lower-premium bars and coins. Weakness in the United States sat in the mass market. Higher-end jewelry held up better. A Miami gold-filled shop lives in the lane that got squeezed, not in the lane that kept its grams.

What a Gold-Filled Piece Is Made Of

Gold filled is a legal term, not a mood. Under the Federal Trade Commission’s jewelry guides, gold-filled means a 1/20th layer of gold alloy, applied by a mechanical process, with the alloy at least 10 karat. Rolled gold plate can be thinner if the fraction is disclosed. A flash of electroplate is a different claim.

HOW THE GUIDES DRAW THE LINE

  • The bond: The gold alloy has to be joined by soldering, brazing, welding, or another mechanical process, not a decorative wash.
  • The share: For the words gold filled, that layer has to be at least 1/20th of the metal weight in the whole article.
  • The karat floor: The gold alloy has to be at least 10 karat, and the karat has to sit next to the term in equal type.

YUMIYU’s product copy sits inside that box. A hoop listing describes a thicker layer of 14 karat gold bonded to brass, sold as tarnish resistant, hypoallergenic, and waterproof, with a note that perfume and chemicals can still shorten the life of the finish. A second finish on the same shop is sterling silver plate with extra coating. The 2023 release also used the word vermeil. The live materials language on that hoop is gold filled over brass.

That is the point of the metal for a buyer who wants a gold face in the shower. It is also the limit. There is no melt value worth talking about, and there is no gram weight to trade back when the bullion quote moves. The piece is a durable skin of gold on a cheaper core.

Evil Eyes, Hamsas and a 200-Charm Bar

The 2023 copy leaned on Asian traditions, nature, and evil-eye motifs. The catalog that loads now is a protection-charm counter: evil eyes, hamsa hands, Stars of David, Chai letters, pearls, bees, and custom initials. Jewish and Mediterranean amulets sit beside the Taiwan origin story without much fuss on the product cards.

A build-your-own necklace is sold with more than 200 charms. Sets are the upsell. Best-seller tiles on the homepage put evil-eye and pearl stacks next to a Queen Bee three-necklace set, which is a later motif the brand has been pushing as leadership and quiet power.

WHAT THE HOMEPAGE WAS ASKING

Piece Regular price Listed price
Turquoise Pearl Evil Eye Set $320 $259
Evil Eye Diamond Choker $130 $88
Pearl Evil Eye Set $298 $298
Queen Bee 3 Necklace Set $268 $268
Paris Hoops, gold filled $52 $52

Those tickets are the everyday band other direct-to-consumer gold brands also fight over, except the metal here is filled, not 14k throughout. An “Influencer and Celebrity Favorite” row names buyers such as Alondra Flores and Bari Lynn on specific SKUs. The more useful signal on the same page is the custom-charm note from a customer called Carmen, who said Nina helped her design a personalized necklace.

8,733 Miles From Taiwan, Then a Birthday Gift

Wong’s own about page is blunter than the launch wire. She moved from Taiwan in 2016 by herself, 8,733 miles from her family. The brand name is her mother’s name, Yumi Yu. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fashion design and a graduate degree in digital marketing, and she describes handmaking as a childhood habit that turned into a birthday gift her mother loved.

FROM THE MOVE TO THE SHOP

  1. 2016: Wong moves from Taiwan to the United States, 8,733 miles from her family.
  2. The birthday gift: She makes a piece of jewelry for her mother, Yumi Yu, and treats that reaction as the start of the line.
  3. September 11, 2023: The Miami launch release presents gold-filled jewelry as a lower-price way to wear a gold look.
  4. March 21, 2026: The brand account pitches waterproof rings for showers, beach days, and workouts.

On that about page she writes that her gold-filled jewelry lasts for years, “but the most important part is that it is meaningful,” and that she wants to give other women the same support she got from her mother. Core values on the same page are culture and gratitude, an inclusive journey, inner wisdom, and expression with purpose. The operational facts sit one layer down: Miami dispatch, text support, and the founder still in the custom-design thread.

How Much the Gold Look Costs Now

The archive sale is the sharpest price on the site, $39, limited quantity, billed as an end-of-summer clear-out. Full-price sets still sit in the high two hundreds. A single hoop pair at $52 is the other end of the same idea: enough gold on the surface to read as fine jewelry in a photo, not enough gold in the core to track the ounce.

Larger everyday-gold brands have been rewriting their metal mix for the same quote. Mejuri cofounder Noura Sakkijha said the gold price had quadrupled to around $4,500 a troy ounce over the life of that company, and that buyers had become more intentional. Mejuri put a steel line on sale from $98 to $168 and has leaned on silver and vermeil when consumer confidence sagged. YUMIYU did not follow that fork. It stayed in gold filled and in the waterproof claim.

That is a coherent bet only if the customer wants a gold face she can leave on, not a gram weight she can pawn. Filled metal will not behave like a Tanishq chain when someone needs cash. It will also not reprice every time the LBMA average jumps another few hundred dollars, which is why a $39 tile can still exist on a Miami homepage after a $172 billion jewellery year.

Buyers Are Told to Leave the Pieces On

The product promise is that the jewelry does not come off. On March 21, 2026, the brand’s X account said its waterproof rings were made for showers, beach days, and workouts, with no tarnish and no green fingers.

That feed has almost no public argument under it. The sharper record is on the shop itself, where buyers describe sleeping in the pieces, swimming in them, and wearing evil-eye bracelets in the shower. The brand is small enough that custom work still routes through Nina, which is a service story more than a scale story, and it is also why a three-year-old launch still reads like a founder at a packing table in Miami rather than a house with a metals desk.

Gold filled will wear. Perfume is already in the care notes. The ounce is still the thing the World Gold Council measures, and that ounce is what pushed 2025 jewellery volume to 1,542.3 tonnes. YUMIYU is selling the picture of that ounce, bonded onto brass, at tickets that start at $39 when the archive bin is open. For a daily necklace that has to survive a pool, that is the product. For anyone who wanted the grams, it is a different store.
