Halloween is just around the corner, and many people are looking for ways to decorate their homes with spooky and festive items. Two of the most popular places to shop for Halloween decorations are Home Depot and Lowe’s, but which one has the better selection and prices? We compared the Halloween sections of both stores and found some interesting differences.
Home Depot has more impressive and cheaper animatronics
One of the main attractions of Home Depot’s Halloween section is the large display of animatronics, which are moving and talking figures that can create a scary or fun atmosphere. Home Depot has two main animatronic displays, one featuring characters from Disney’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, and another with more traditional Halloween creatures like witches, skeletons, and zombies.
The most impressive decoration by far was the 13-foot Jack Skellington animatronic, which cost $399 and moved smoothly, talked, and sang. Other animatronics ranged from $90 to $249, depending on the size and features. Some of them were very realistic and creepy, such as a life-size Freddy Krueger and a giant mummy.
Home Depot’s animatronics were noticeably bigger, cheaper, and more varied than Lowe’s, which had only one main display with smaller and less detailed figures. Lowe’s animatronics were mostly inspired by Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride, which is a classic but not very original theme. They also cost more, ranging from $129 to $299.
Lowe’s has a better variety of Halloween items
While Home Depot may have the edge in animatronics, Lowe’s has a more diverse and creative selection of Halloween items. Lowe’s offers decorations for different tastes and styles, from cute and kitschy to dark and elegant. Some of the categories include Disney-themed items, vintage-inspired items, Victorian-style items, and neon signs.
Lowe’s also has more options for indoor decorations, such as pillows, candles, tableware, and wall art. Some of the items were unique and high quality, such as a black lace spiderweb fireplace mantle scarf for $14.98 and a snake fortune wheel for $29.98. Lowe’s also had some fun and quirky items, such as yoga skeletons, black flamingo zombies, and iridescent pumpkins.
Home Depot’s selection of indoor decorations was more limited and generic, mostly consisting of welcome mats, lighted decorations, fake animal skeletons, and inflatable characters. The prices were slightly cheaper than Lowe’s, but the quality and design were not as impressive.
Both stores have plenty of outdoor decorations
Both Home Depot and Lowe’s have a lot of options for outdoor decorations, such as scarecrows, hay bales, pumpkins, gravestones, spiderwebs, bats, and lights. The prices and quality were similar in both stores, so it mostly depends on personal preference and availability.
Some of the outdoor decorations that stood out were a 12-foot skeleton with LED eyes for $299 at Home Depot and a white pumpkin with gold snake LED light-up decor for $39.99 at Lowe’s. Both stores also had licensed Disney inflatable characters for around $50 each.
We enjoyed shopping for Halloween decorations at both Home Depot and Lowe’s and would return in the future. However, we thought that Lowe’s had a better variety of Halloween items that suited different styles and preferences. Home Depot had more impressive and cheaper animatronics but lacked in creativity and originality.
