Lenovo has unveiled its latest flagship gaming laptop, the Legion 9i, which boasts a self-contained liquid cooling system and a stunning Mini LED display. The laptop, which will be available in October, is priced at a hefty $4,399 and offers a plethora of features for hardcore gamers.
Liquid Cooling System: A First for a 16-inch Laptop
One of the most distinctive features of the Legion 9i is its liquid cooling system, which is designed in collaboration with Cooler Master. The system uses water and a pump to transfer heat from the GPU’s VRAM to a radiator, which then dissipates it through three fans. This allows the laptop to handle up to 230W of power and deliver a superior gaming performance.
The liquid cooling system is integrated inside the chassis, making it the first 16-inch laptop in the world to do so. Most laptops use air cooling or external liquid cooling attachments, which can be bulky and inconvenient. Lenovo claims that the liquid cooling system only activates when the GPU reaches 84 degrees Celsius, which helps to prolong its lifespan and reduce noise.
Mini LED Display: A Visual Feast for Gamers
Another impressive feature of the Legion 9i is its 16-inch Mini LED display, which has a resolution of 3200 x 2000 and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The display supports a 165Hz variable refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and G-Sync validation, making it ideal for immersive gaming and content creation.
Mini LED displays are known for their high brightness, contrast, and color accuracy, as they use thousands of tiny LEDs to backlight the screen. They also consume less power and produce less heat than traditional LCD displays. Some of the best gaming laptops have switched to Mini LED displays, such as the Razer Blade 16, and Lenovo is following suit with the Legion 9i.
Forged Carbon Cover: A Unique and Lightweight Design
The Legion 9i also has a unique and lightweight design, thanks to its forged carbon cover. Forged carbon is a composite material that consists of carbon fibers and resin, which gives it strength and durability. The cover also has a distinctive pattern that varies from unit to unit, making each laptop look different.
The forged carbon cover helps to reduce the weight of the laptop, which is important considering the added bulk of the liquid cooling system. The laptop weighs 5.4 pounds (2.56 kg) and is 0.89 inches (22.7 mm) thick, which is not bad for a 16-inch gaming laptop. The cover also has an RGB light ring around the edge, which adds some flair to the laptop.
Other Specs and Features: A Powerhouse of Performance
The Legion 9i is packed with other specs and features that make it a powerhouse of performance. The laptop comes with an Intel Core i9-13980HX processor and up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU with 16GB of GDDR6 memory. It also supports up to 64GB of DDR5-5600 or 32GB of DDR5-6400 memory and up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD storage.
The laptop has a variety of ports, including two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an Ethernet port. It also has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a 1080p webcam with an e-shutter. The laptop has a large 99.99 WHr battery that can last up to eight hours on a single charge.
The Legion 9i is clearly aimed at gamers who want the best of the best in terms of performance, display quality, and cooling efficiency. The laptop is not cheap, but it offers a lot of value for its price tag. The laptop will be available in October from Lenovo’s website and select retailers.
