Samsung has been releasing the October 2023 security patch to various Galaxy devices this week, and the latest model to receive the update is the Galaxy S20 FE. The LTE version of the Galaxy S20 FE, which runs on the Exynos 990 chipset, is getting the update in several countries across Latin America and Europe. The update comes with firmware version G780FXXUHWI7 and only includes new security fixes.
What’s new in the October 2023 security patch?
The October 2023 security patch for Samsung devices fixes two critical vulnerabilities discovered in the core Android OS and 12 vulnerabilities that are specific to Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Some of these vulnerabilities could allow attackers to access various parts of the software without the user’s consent and perform malicious actions such as running harmful code, enabling and disabling Wi-Fi networks, installing a different version of an app, and more. A few vulnerabilities have also been left undisclosed to prevent them from being exploited before the October patch reaches all eligible devices.
How to download the October 2023 security patch?
If you own a Galaxy S20 FE LTE and live in any of the countries where the update is available, you can check for the new update by going to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the full-sized firmware file from our firmware archive and flash it manually using a Windows PC and the Odin software.
When will the Galaxy S20 FE 5G get the October 2023 security patch?
As of October 13, only the LTE variant of the Galaxy S20 FE is getting the October security patch, but you can expect the Snapdragon-powered 5G model to join the LTE variant soon. However, don’t expect Android 14 and One UI 6.0 for either variant, as the Galaxy S20 FE, like the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, launched running Android 10 and was only eligible for three major OS upgrades.
