Terms of Service

The short version

These terms are the agreement between you and Newfound Times when you use this website. They are not written to trap you. They exist so that everyone knows the basic rules: you may read and share our journalism freely, you may not pass it off as your own or misuse the site, and there are limits on what we can promise about information that changes by the hour. Using the site means you accept what follows.

If you are reading on behalf of an organisation, you are agreeing to these terms for that organisation as well as yourself.

Using the site

You are welcome to read, link to, quote fairly, and share our articles. In return we ask a few simple things. Do not attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems. Do not scrape the site at industrial scale or republish whole articles without permission. Do not use the site to break the law or to harm other people. Do not misrepresent yourself as us.

Automated access, including for training a model or building a competing database, is not permitted without our written agreement. We may block traffic that threatens the stability of the site or the experience of ordinary readers, and we may withdraw access from anyone who abuses it.

Intellectual property

The articles, headlines, images we own, layout, and the site as a whole are protected by copyright and other rights, held by us or by the people we license from. You may quote a reasonable extract with clear credit and, online, a link back to the original. You may not republish whole articles, sell our content, or present it as though it were your own work. Requests to reproduce more than a short extract go to support@newfoundtimes.com.

Some images and embedded media belong to other rights holders and are used with permission or under licence. That permission does not pass to you simply because you found the material here. If you believe your work has been used improperly, our DMCA and copyright policy explains how to raise it.

Your submissions

If you send us a tip, a message, a letter, or any other material, you confirm it is yours to send and that we may use it in our journalism. We may edit what you send for length and clarity, and we may decline to use it at all. We do not pay for unsolicited material unless we have agreed to in advance. Where you ask to be treated as a confidential source, we will honour that, as described on our contact page.

Do not send us anything you are not free to share, and do not send confidential material belonging to someone else without the right to do so.

No warranty, and the nature of news

We work hard to be accurate, but news is a moving target and this site is provided as is. We do not warrant that every article is complete, current, or free of error at the moment you read it, and a story that was accurate when published may be overtaken by events an hour later. Nothing here is professional advice, a point we make at greater length in our disclaimer. You are responsible for how you use the information you find here.

Where the site links to another website, that site is not under our control and we are not responsible for its content, its accuracy, or what it does with your data. A link is a pointer, not an endorsement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Newfound Times is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or anything you found on it, including indirect or consequential loss. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits on liability, and where that is the case these limits apply only as far as the law permits. Nothing in these terms removes a right you have that cannot lawfully be removed.

Changes, law, and how to reach us

We may update these terms as the site and the law change. When we do, the date below moves, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated version. If a particular clause is found unenforceable, the rest of the terms still stand.

These terms are governed by the law of the place where we are established, and disputes fall to the courts with proper jurisdiction there, without stripping you of any protection guaranteed by the law of your own home country.
