One inbox, read by editors

Everything reaches us at support@newfoundtimes.com. That is the address we publish and the one we stand behind. It is read and sorted by our own editorial team, not by an outsourced help desk and not by an automated agent. We do not run a long list of per department aliases, because in a newsroom this size they mostly become places where mail goes to be forgotten.

Put the purpose at the front of the subject line and your message reaches the right person faster. CORRECTION, TIP, PITCH, ADVERTISING, or PRIVACY is all we need. If you are writing about a specific article, paste the link rather than retyping the headline, because two stories can share a headline and only one has your problem in it.

Corrections and complaints about a story

If we have published something factually wrong, write with CORRECTION in the subject line, include the link, and quote the exact sentence you are disputing. Names, figures, dates, and job titles are the things we most often get wrong and the things we most want to hear about. What happens after your message lands is described in full on our corrections policy page.

Complaints about tone, framing, or a headline you think is unfair go to the same inbox. Where we can, we hand those to an editor who had no part in the original story, so the person reviewing the work is not the person defending it.

Story tips, including the confidential kind

Tips are among the most valuable messages we receive. A document, a figure that does not add up, a decision made quietly, an account of something you witnessed: send it, and tell us when and where you saw it. The more concrete the detail, the faster we can start checking, and specifics we can verify are worth far more than a strong opinion we cannot.

If passing something to us could put your job, your safety, or your standing at risk, protect yourself first. Write from a personal account on a personal device, and make CONFIDENTIAL the first word of your subject line so it is handled that way from the outset. We will reply to agree a safer channel before you send anything sensitive. We do not identify our sources to anyone, advertisers and lawyers included.

Pitches, releases, and advertising

Freelance pitches are welcome, especially from reporters close to a story we cannot reach from a desk. A few short paragraphs is plenty: what the story is, who you can talk to, and roughly what it will cost. Send press releases as plain text in the body of the email. We do not open unsolicited attachments, so a link is always better than a file.

Advertising, sponsorship, and partnership enquiries also go to the same address, with ADVERTISING in the subject line, and are handled on the business side rather than by the desk that would cover you. What we sell, and the categories we refuse, is set out on our advertise page.

Privacy requests, legal notices, and reply times

For access to or deletion of your personal data, or any question about what our analytics and advertising partners collect, write with PRIVACY in the subject line. The rights you hold and how we handle a request are described in our privacy policy. If you need a postal route for a formal legal notice, ask and we will provide one.

We deal with corrections the day we read them and aim to answer everything else within two working days, which can stretch during a major breaking story. If a week passes with no reply, assume something went astray and send it again. One more thing: we will never ask you to trust a social media account as ours. If an account claims to speak for NEWFOUND TIMES and you are not sure, ask this inbox first.
